Introduction to Python Programming 2020

C2SM is organizing an online workshop on the mornings of 1 and 2 October 2020, given by the Scientific IT Services (SIS) of ETH Zürich, on the introduction to the Python programming language.


This course introduces the Python programming language to students and researchers already having basic programming skills in another programming language.

Target groups

PhD students, post-docs and staff from C2SM-associated research groups.

This course is suited for you if:

  • you did some programming in the past (maybe R, Matlab, C, Java, ...)
  • you are familiar with concepts such as "function", "if then else", "while" and "for".
  • you do not have any Python experience yet.

Note: The course will be too fast if you never programmed before.

Content

Im­por­tant lan­guage fea­tures and data types in Python. The course com­pre­hends a se­ries of pre­sen­ta­tions, each fol­lowed by in­di­vid­ual ex­er­cises.

Venue

The course will take place online with zoom, and we will provide a Python programming environment accessible with a web browser. Starting time is 9 am.

Costs

This course is offered free of charge.

The number of participants is limited to 30, applications will be treated "first come, first serve". The participants will be notified as soon as the maximum number of participants is reached.
