Parts

This course "Git for Beginners" will give you an introduction to basic Git commands. For users that already have some experience with Git, we recommend to join our "Git for Advanced" workshop. More details about Git for Advanced will follow on our website soon.

Equipment

The participants should bring their own laptop with Git installed and a GitHub account. 

Target participants

The workshop is offered to C2SM community members (all staff of professors/group leaders who are C2SM members).

Git for Beginners

9:30 AM - 3:00 PM (Individual lunch break 12-1 PM)

This course is designed to provide a general introduction to Git for the complete beginner or for users who have little or no experience with Git. During the course, you will learn what version control is, how to create a repository, common workflows, how to switch between branches, how to restore old versions of files, how to deal with merge conflicts, and how to work with remote branches.
