C2SM goes SDSC
SDSC stands for Swiss Data Science Center, it is the newly established Initiative for Data Science in Switzerland. SDSC issued its first call for proposals in July 2017. Our project, “CarboSense4D: Four-dimensional mapping of carbon dioxide using a low power sensor network” is one of 12 out of 28 submitted projects that will be funded.
GPUs power near-global climate simulation at 1 km resolution
A new peer-reviewed paper is causing a stir in the climatology community. Entitled, “Near-global climate simulation at 1 km resolution: establishing a performance baseline on 4888 GPUs with COSMO 5.0”, the paper by our C2SM community members Oliver Fuhrer, Tarun Chadha, Xavier Lapillonne, Daniel Lüthi, Carlos Osuna, Christoph Schär, Thomas Schulthess together with further colleagues has been published at Geoscientific Model Development Discussions and is now under review.
Reto Knutti is the new president of ProClim
Reto Knutti, Professor of Climate Physics at the Institute for Atmospheric and Climate Science (IAC) and member of C2SM, is the new president of ProClim. In this position, he takes over for Heinz Gutscher, who is an emeritus Professor of Social Psychology at the University of Zurich.
