Weather and climate data freely available

As part of the Open Government Data (OGD) initiative, the Swiss Federal Office of Meteorology and Climatology MeteoSwiss is making meteorological and climatological data available to all interested parties free of charge from May 2025.

Oliver Fuhrer appointed as Titular professor

Oliver Fuhrer

C2SM member Oliver Fuhrer has been appointed by the ETH board as Titular professor at D-​USYS. Oliver is currently a lecturer at ETH Zurich and head of the Department of Numerical Forecasting at the Federal Office of Meteorology and Climatology (MeteoSwiss) and has collaborated with ETH in various roles over many years.

Feeling tomorrow's heat: ETH researchers calculate climate cost of comfort at Venice Architecture Biennale

Sonia Seneviratne and David Bresch, both professors at the Departement for Environmental Systems Sciences, have contributed to a thought-provoking installation just by the entrance at the Venice Architecture Biennale 2025. Together with Lorenzo Pierini, a postdoctoral researcher, they calculated what the air temperature would be in the future if we didn't have air conditioning mitigation.

Zonda v1.0 is here – making ICON simulations more accessible

The new web-based tool Zonda for generating external parameter data for the weather and climate model ICON is now officially available. Zonda simplifies a previously complex process and opens the door for more researchers to work with ICON.
